Sterilization of Hospital Supplies for General Surgery

Resolution:

The National Health Surveillance Agency established, in an August 2006 resolution, a list of 66 hospital products that cannot be processed, that is, as soon as they are used, they must be discarded immediately. Check below which materials do not fit what is allowed regarding sterilization of hospital supplies according to RE 2605/06.

  • Needles with components, non-dismantling plastics;

  • Scalpel for laparoscopy with a source of energy, for cutting or coagulation with aspiration and irrigation;
  • Disposable scalpels with the fixed blade to the handle (functionality);

  • Blood bags;
  • Centrifugal blood pump;
  • Implantable infusion pump;
  • Disposable surgical drapes;
  • Infusion cannulas, except wired cannulas;
  • Intra-aortic Balloon Catheter;
  • Epidural catheter;
  • Embolectomy catheter, Fogarty type;
  • Oxygen catheter;
  • Catheter for thermodilution flow measurement;
  • Double-J catheter, for ureter;
  • Short-term and long-term peritoneal dialysis catheters;
  • Catheters and valves for ventricular bypass;
  • Catheters for venous infusion with single, double, or triple fire;
  • Disposable cover for General surgery instrument table;
  • Drainage urine collectors, open or closed;
  • disposable surgical swabs;
  • Tube sets for use in cardiopulmonary bypass;
  • Rubber dam for dental use;
  • Device for peripheral vascular infusion or venous aspiration;
  • Non-dismountable linear or circular device for mechanical suturing;
  • Drains in general;
  • Disposable packaging for sterilization of any kind;
  • Disposable equipment of any kind, except dialysis, irrigation, and ophthalmic aspiration lines;
  • Ophthalmic sponges;
  • Valve skin expanders;
  • Extensions for implantable electrodes;
  • Equipment for peristaltic and syringe infusion pumps;
  • Extenders for equipment with or without a medication administration device;
  • Inline filters for arterial blood;
  • filters for cardioplegia;
  • Endovascular filters;
  • Surgical suture threads: fiber, natural, synthetic, or collagen, with or without a needle;
  • Pulse generators, implantable;
  • Blood concentrators;
  • Valve injectors (for injecting medications, without a metallic needle);
  • Shaver blade with inner diameter less than 3mm;
  • Disposable scalpel blades, except those for ophthalmic use;
  • Hemoglycotest lancets;
  • Disposable contact lenses;
  • surgical gloves;
  • procedure gloves;
  • Ophthalmic silicone oils and ophthalmic viscoelastic solutions;
  • Bubble oxygenator;
  • Membrane oxygenator;
  • Non-dismountable tweezers and scissors of any diameter for video-assisted laparoscopic surgery;
  • Implantable products of any nature such as: cardiac, digestive, neurological, dental, ophthalmological, orthopedic, otorhinolaryngological, pulmonary, urological, and vascular;
  • Plastic heart punch;
  • Venous reservoirs for cardiac surgery for cardioplegia and cardiotomy;
  • Cardiac output sensor;
  • Intracranial Pressure Sensors;
  • Plastic syringes except for radiological contrast injection pump.
