When is it Time to Buy a New Laptop?

Technology these days can last a while, but devices won’t last forever. And depending on how much you spend on something like a laptop, you could get a year or two out of it, or many years. Whether your current laptop was cheap or expensive, there will always come a time where you might notice that it is no longer working as well as it once was. Whether you have been thinking of upgrading your laptop for some time or have recently started to notice that your work or studies are suffering due to an old and ineffective laptop, here are some sure signs that it might be time for an upgrade.

Crashing

Every laptop will crash now and again – glitches happen, and often all you need to do is restart the machine for things to go back to normal. This might sometimes happen if you are using a lot of different software programs at the same time or have had lots of tabs open for hours and the available RAM is running low. Restarting usually refreshes everything and solves the problem. But if your laptop starts to crash when you’ve only been using it for a few minutes or opening up just one program feels like a huge amount of work, then it’s probably time to start looking for a new one. Sluggish Performance

Even if your laptop is not crashing when you’re using it, things being very slow and sluggish might be a sign that you need to think about getting a new one. This is especially true if your laptop used to be quite fast when booting up and loading up different software programs, and now feels like everything is a huge amount of work. Over time, laptop components are subject to wear and tear, and eventually they’re just not going to work as well as they once did.

Battery Problems

One of the main benefits of having a laptop is that they are portable. Compared to a desktop PC, you don’t need to keep your laptop plugged in all the time to work on it. Most laptops will have a battery life of around eight hours on a full charge, or even longer if you’re not doing intensive tasks on it and keep the screen brightness low. However, over time, batteries deteriorate. If you’ve found that you often have to take your charger with you because you don’t trust your laptop to last more than an hour or so, then this might be a sign to consider replacing it.

Physical Damage

People who use their laptop a lot for work or school will put it through a lot each day. Over time, this can lead to physical wear and tear that could make your laptop harder to use. Cracks on the screen, for example, might not affect the laptop’s performance but they can definitely make it harder to get work done, especially if it has damaged the picture. If you type a lot, you might have keys that have had the number scratched off due to repetitive use.

If you can relate to any of these when it comes to your laptop, it might be time to think about buying yourself a new one.
