Family RCA: 1 in 5 households have already used it

Six months after the entry into force of the new family RCA, 1 in 5 people used this opportunity to optimize the costs of car and motorcycle IVF insurance.

With the family RCA, it is possible to access the lowest merit class among the members of the family upon renewal of the policy. Let’s see how it is going 6 months after the entry into force.

Familiar RCA: Boom or Flop?

Based on a Nielsen survey, only 20% of the potential beneficiaries of the new family car liability have used this opportunity.

It would seem like a flop since the initiative is expected to lead to significant savings for policyholders. But at the basis of these data, there could be causes independent of the provision.

First of all:

  • the generalized two-month lockdown (from 9 March 2021 to 4 May 2022);
  • the consequent extensions of the insurance deadlines.

And then the other repercussions of the Covid-19 emergency which led to a serious economic crisis and the automotive sector. 60% of people would have postponed the purchase of a new car.

Then there are the reasons linked to the provision of family RCA. Many are still unaware of this opportunity (according to Nielsen about 1 in 3 interviewees).

On the other hand, very few are those who, despite knowing a new law well, have not been able to benefit from the benefit because they are responsible for an accident in the last 5 years (2.4%).

How does family RCA work?

With family TPL it is possible to ensure all vehicles are owned by family members (both cars and motorcycles), using the best class of merit, that of the most virtuous family member.

Here are some features of this provision:

  • the savings could be considerable, with policies that can cost up to 50% less in some cases;
  • to make the change of class of merit it is necessary to apply for it to renew the policy;
  • unlike the Bersani Law, the insurance contract with a more favorable merit class can also be extended to another type of vehicle (such as a car with a moped);
  • It is very important to know that the benefit is only for those who have not had any claims in the previous 5 years.
