Arimidex is an effective drug used to treat breast cancer in women.
Arimidex is used for the treatment of breast cancer. Arimidex works by stopping estrogen production in the body, Arimidex blocks the enzyme responsible for producing estrogens. Arimidex has been approved as adjuvant therapy for early-stage hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Arimidex may also be used to treat osteoporosis caused by hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or removal of the ovaries after menopause. Arimidex can prevent certain types of breast cancers from returning after surgery and it may decrease the risk of developing new primary breast cancers in women with DCIS who are taking tamoxifen. Arimidex belongs to a class or group of medications called aromatase inhibitors. Arimidex works by decreasing the amount of estrogen produced in the body, Arimidex decreases the effects of estrogen on breast cancer cells. Arimidex can decrease bone loss (osteoporosis) caused by treatment with tamoxifen (Nolvadex). Arimidex may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
